Water Level

When we were at the cabin last weekend, we saw this sign in the water and were not quite sure how to read it.  It was clear that it was to measure the water level but it started with 5 feet at the bottom of the stick. Luckily while we were standing around throwing sticks for the dogs, the guy who put the sign in the water showed up.

He explained that the stick that starts at 5 feet follows the stick that is underwater already - if you look back to the right of sign, there is one under the water.  He put the first sign in November and said that right before Thanksgiving the lake rose 4 feet in one day!  He also told us that the water level right now is the same level the lake was at the very beginning of last summer!  That means that we are at least as good as we were last summer and we still have months of rain left - fingers crossed.
