EDH's trip

The kids made their own candles
Jim, Grace and I went to EDH to visit my brother's family last weekend.  We squeezed in as much as possible in 24 hours!  We saw Mimi and Sam play soccer, we went to Apple Hill, we had lunch in Placerville, we made an apple pie with Jack and we had dinner with Diana's brother and wife!

It was an awesome trip!
At lunch

Gigi rode with us!

Malti-poo

Amanda got a puppy last Friday.

He is a 3.5 pound, 3 month old Maltese and Poodle mix.  He has not yet been named yet.  Well...that is not true.  He has had about 100 names, including:

Simon
Hudson
Chipotle
Chip
Milo

I wonder which one will stick.

Sleep standing. Out cold!

Tom

I saw "Tom" on the bus on Friday nite.  He held everyone back from getting on the bus until I got in first!  I guess he wants to be sure I get on in case he needs me!

What will I Bee??? A baBee....

Last nite at TNDC, Mari and Kyle revealed the gender of their baby!  Mari brought these cupcakes that were dyed the the appropriate color.   First we did a show of hands on who thought it was a boy and who thought it was a girl and 100% chose boy.  Then, Tina did the honors by taking a bite and we all saw BLUE!  TNDC is having a baby boy!  Congrats to us!  (And to Mari and Kyle too!)

Princess Chach

When Drew get's hungry, he acts CrAzY!   On Saturday between soccer games, he was in rare form while with Amanda.  He was so bad that she started calling him Princess Chach and said she was going to get him a tiara!    Yesterday, Amanda texted this pic to me of "Princess Chach"!

"Tom" Update

"Tom" called me on Monday nite to thank me for the assistance.

He reported that his is "just fine".  He went on to tell me that he had gone to an urgent care center (not the ER where they were taking him so I assume he refused care at the hospital) and that the doc did an EKG said he was fine and that he just needed to eat more!

I was shocked and told him that this was great news but that I wanted to make sure he knew that we couldn't even get a pulse on him.  His response was that he used to run marathons so his resting pulse rate was really low!  And then he added that he had drank a lot of pomegranate juice and that lowers the blood pressure!

My assessment is that this guy is in denial and did not get the care that he needed.  I suspect he didn't give the doc a full description of the event.

Let's just say that I am NOT sitting next to him on the bus anymore....because I won't be surprised if it happens again.

2 hours late to work

I had a very eventful ride into work today on the giant purple shuttle....

First of all - the shuttle was 25 minutes late picking us up because the traffic over 17 was really bad.

And when I got on the bus, one of the guys who rides all the way from Santa Cruz made a joke that they were late because they stopped for breakfast on the way and I asked him what he had an he said eggs benedict....and everyone laughed.

So we head out and get on the highway and I start my computer and begin working.  I would guess that we were a couple miles into the trip when that same guy who had made the breakfast joke - I will call him Tom - sat forward in his seat and said, " I don't feel well".  He was across the aisle and one seat back from me.  I turn around and take one look at him and realize that this is not good.  He is sweating and white.

He is on the edge of his seat and says he just needs to lay down and lays in the center aisle of the bus.  I turn in my seat and start asking him questions:

Do you have any medical conditions?
Do you have a heart condition?
Do you have pain in your chest, arm or jaw?

He points to a spot in his chest and says "right here".

At this point, I scream out to the driver to call 911 that we have a medical emergency and I jump over to the seat where he was sitting so I am closer to him -- and he starts losing consciousness.  I am talking to him and rubbing my knuckles on his chest and moving his head.  I checked for a pulse and found one at first but then he totally lost consciousnesses and I could not find a pulse on either side of his neck.  And his chest was no longer rising or falling.

I called out to someone to double check for a pulse to make sure I was not missing it and someone checked and said they did not feel one either.

I started CPR and did it for a little bit and he started coming to.  I am not sure if he really needed it or if his pulse had been so shallow that I couldn't feel it.  But from what I could tell, he was not breathing and had no pulse.

He oriented pretty quickly - he knew the date, his name, what he claimed to have had for breakfast (eggs benedict) and where we were going.  But he was loopy and repeating stuff over and over and not making a lot of sense.  He kept saying that this had happened to him when he was 13 (he is now 44) and that the doctor just told him to eat more!

It took a long time for the fire department to get there because the freeway was wall to wall traffic.  So while waiting, he tried to get up once and then had to lay back down.  Then on the second try, he was able to get up in the seat but was still pale and clammy.  And at this point, he was trying to get us to continue on our way in the bus to go to work!  He said he would call for help at work if he needed it!

He was still clammy, white and sweaty.

At this point, I had to become totally pushy and pretty much say, we are not moving this bus until paramedics show up and tell us you are clear to go.  "Tom" apparently was a former EMT so he knew he could refuse medical transport - but he couldn't refuse us from waiting for help.  At one point I said to him, "If I was your mother - although I want the record to show that I am not old enough to be your mother - I would want you to go to the hospital!"  That quieted him down for awhile.

Then he talked about it again and I told him if we called off the first responders and continued down the road and he dropped dead a mile from here, then I couldn't live with that.....that shut him up for good.

When the fire department showed up, he tried to refuse transport from them and they wouldn't let him.  So off he goes in an ambulance and we merge back on to the freeway to go to work.

A few funny things that happened during this drama:

1.  My comment about not being old enough to be his mother!
2.  I am wearing a cute little dress and was all squeezed into the center of a bus aisle providing medical care....let's just say it's a good thing I was wearing my shorts style spanks!  I had to apologize to a bus full of people for my unfortunate wardrobe malfunction!
3.  Once he was sitting up, we were looking for something for him to eat or drink - like a piece of fruit or some juice.  And some guy speaks up and says - "I have a peanut butter and jelly on a bagel and some graham crackers."  And I immediately think..."what....are you a five year old going to kindergarten?  Who takes pb and j and graham crackers to work???"
4.  When "Tom" had come to and was still laying on the floor, I looked up and saw a bunch of people getting off the bus.  I asked everyone, "is there another bus here that people are getting on?"  And they say that, "no, John so and so, an employee, saw the shuttle pulled over and stopped to say he could take three people into the office!"  So three people go off the bus and into John's mini van and went to work!  So random!

Anyway - when I went to yoga at lunch today and I had to make an offering for the class, my offering was that "Tom" gets well and a "thank you" that he didn't die on that bus!

Fashion Diva

Since starting back to work on Aug 26, I have not worn the same outfit to work twice!  I have trying to see how long I could go without repeating.  The weather changing into fall will help me go longer.  So far, by biggest challenge has been being lazy.  Sometimes I just want to throw on a favorite pair of jeans and a comfy shirt.

Of course, this does not include outfits on the weekends or evenings.....I pretty much wear my favorite shorts on all those days!

Aftermath of Rim Fire

Finally got up to the cabin after the road opened and got to see some of the Rim Fire devastation.  All the side roads are still closed so this is the view from the Rim of the World overlook.  We were able to drive all the way down to Evergreen Lodge.  There were sections of total devastation along that road and other areas where you would have had no idea there was a fire.  Evergreen Lodge was completely saved and we actually saw a wedding occurring.

We stopped at the restaurant in Buck Meadows for lunch with Anna and Roy.

Still anxious to get into Cherry Lake but that whole area is posted as being closed until September 2014!

New Jetty

They are building  a new jetty at the cabin.  It looks like it's going to be really nice.  It will be a huge improvement for sure!

Notice Ahi for scale!

Bat Cave

Found this bat in the cabin.  I had walked all around the house opening blinds and curtains and putting stuff away and never noticed it.  I am lucky I didn't step on it!

Save the Tatas TNDC

We had our first annual Save the Tata's TNDC last nite.  Grandma Bug was our honorary special guest survivor!  Our menu was:

  • Chicken breasts
  • Tator Tatas (small and large)
  • Antioxidant rich fruits and veggies
  • Naked boobie cupcakes

And we raised $75 in donations!

Pontoon Mama

Jim got a call from the administrative folks at the lake yesterday and they told him to come and get the boat out of the water NOW - because the water is so low that people are having a hard time getting their boats out around the mud!

Luckily, we are heading up there this weekend to do just that -- but it's going to be interesting to see if we can get the Pontoon Mama out as we are closer to the edge of the lake  (AKA the mud) then anyone!

Stand by for pics!

It's a wrap

Football season is over.  They closed the season with 6 wins and 3 losses.  This means Grace's football career is over.  It was a great experience for her and really fun to watch.  She clearly earned the respect of the boys on the team and was an equal or better player than most.  I am proud of her for trying something new and something that no other girl did.  She has Bad Add Girl Power!

My family is running away in the Fantasy Football League:

1st Place - Jim
2nd Place - Me
3rd Place - Drew

Woot!

Detail

I got the Tahoe detailed this weekend to take out the thousands of scratches we got over the summer.  They did an amazing job!
Imagine my horror when Jim reported he wanted to take it off road this weekend to look at the fire damage by the cabin!  Seriously - it's a $225 detail job and a week later you want to ruin it?!?!?

Remember the scratches after being lost in the woods?  We got the Tahoe detailed yesterday and they worked miracles!  It looks almost brand new.  I was shocked that it turned out so good.

Free is Good Fair

We have a "Free is Good Fair" at work every 6 months.  It works like this:  Employees bring in items they no longer want and we put them out like a garage sale.  The marketing department also brings out overstock items, items that have old logos, etc.

We set up for a couple hours in the morning and then at 11:30 am people start lining up.  At noon, we let them in and its a free for all.   AND everything is FREE!

I have worked the last couple fairs because my admin is really involved.  In fact, I bring stuff in that I want to donate, all year, and leave them under her desk.

There is a lot of good stuff at these events.  And since I am working set up (along with 3 other coworkers) we get the first pick of the litter!  Check out my find this year - below!  I only got it because I thought G would like to play it - I had no idea it was valuable.
