Congrats

Congratulations to Drew who is leaving his first employer after college to get some new experience in the solar industry.  They are sad to see him go and told him he is welcome back whenever he wants a job.  I could not be prouder of him for deciding he wanted a change, finding a new job and leaving with integrity.

Yosemite during the pandemic

I was at the cabin alone for the weekend and shot into Yosemite to try to get some time in the park before they opened it up to 100% occupancy.
The smoke has been pretty bad on and off in and around the park but I got lucky.  I arrived at about 7 am and got to Glacier Point al little before 8 am.  You can see from the pics that there was smoke but it lifted through the morning and turned out to be a beautiful day.

I walked around Glacier Point and then headed to the valley for a walk out to the trailhead for the Mist trail.
The highlight of the day was seeing a bear on my way out of the park.  I saw him in a meadow and pulled over and watching him for awhile.  He just stood in the same spot and "grubbed".

Fall look

Grace made scarfs to sell at a CCI fundraiser at a local Cider House.  We needed models for the scarfs and lucky for us we had a few models handy!

Happy 84th Birthday

What a weird birthday!  It was a Covid 19 birthday celebration for Roy.  We all visited outside their apartment and gave them cherry cobbler (Roy's favorite) for them to take home (because we are not allowed to remove masks to eat).  The highlight of Roy's birthday was seeing Jim's new work truck!

Eastern Sierras Trip - Fall Colors

Jim has had a trip to the Eastern Sierras to see that fall colors on his bucket list.  Since we are spending a lot of time at the cabin due to Covid, we are only about 3 hours away -- so we planned a trip this year.

Here was our itinerary:

  • Camp in Inyo National Forest, Crooked Meadow - dispersed camping
  • Hike to Parker Lake
  • Do the June Lake Loop, stopping at June Lake Brewery for some beer
  • Lundy Canyon, hike at the top of the canyon
  • Virginia Lakes
  • Bridgeport, with a stop at the Burger Barn
  • Twin Lakes, walked around the resort
  • Green Creek Canyon

These four pics above show the Sagehen Meadow area.  We were going to camp here but decided to check out Crooked Meadow and liked it a little better.

The following 5 pics are from Lundy anyone.  We hiked to the Lundy waterfall and were amazed by the beautiful colors.

The following five pics are from Twin Lakes.  We walked around the area and Ahi particularly like the scratchy grass and took the opportunity to do an excessive amount of rolling around.

It was fun to checkout the little things - below shows Mono Mills which milled lumber for Bodie.  It was located close to where we were camping and we enjoyed the stop to check it out.

On the end of the second day, the smoke from the Creek fire settled in over our camp spot so we decided to pack up and head home early.  It was a good call because the smoke was measured at 650 overnight in Mammoth.

Green Creek - an 8 mile dirt road that has great areas for dispersed camping.

Hanging out in camp in the sun after a night of temps in the 30's!

We love our fancy new tent.  It is heavy duty and only takes about 1 minute to pop it up.

Parker Lake near June Lake Loop

We called this our 30th wedding anniversary trip.  Seemed like a good thing to do since we have spent much of the last 30 years adventuring together!

Girls Day Out

Grace took Astrid and retired breeder, Aggie, to the pumpkin patch.  According to the pics, a good time was had by all.

I am pretty sure Astrid is thinking about tennis balls in this pic!  That is the look on her face when she wants me to throw one!
