Flowers

My mom gifted me this embroidered artwork done my my grandmother probably over 50 years ago.  It shows each of the states official flowers.  I love it because my grandmother made it and because I love wildflowers.  I ordered this frame for it and will be hanging it at the cabin.

Diana Falls, Bauer Cave and Dirt Road off of Evergreen

Did a boondoggle of a number of hikes on a sunny, warm March day.  Saw some beautiful stuff and enjoyed time with the dogs while wandering in the forest.

Bauer Cave is not closed off.  Glad we got to see it before they fenced it in.

Table Top Mountain

G and I played hooky on Friday afternoon and went on a hike to Table Top Mountain in Jamestown.  We try to go every spring to see the beautiful display of wildflowers on the flat top of the mountain.

It is a short 3 mile hike with the last part scrambling to the top up a bunch of steep rocks. It's worth the scary scramble for the beauty on the top.  It was a great photo opportunity for the pups.  I did not get one of Ahi because she was too busy rolling in the flowers to be bothered with pics.

Braille

A friend's elementary aged son is learning braille and he gave G and I a tutorial and demo of his braille machine.  It was fascinating and we asked him to write us a letter in braille to us.  We got the letter above and immediately tried to decode it.  It is hard!  We had to ask for help.   Got some clues and still trying!

Happy Pi Day

Pi Day is usually a big deal at work with tons of people making pies to bring in and share.  Since we are remote, we are doing a virtual Pi Day where we just post pics.  It's not the same but at least its something!

Stay tuned

The next sweatshirt G is going to make me is going to be made from this fabric.  I can hardly wait!

Hops

Check out Hop's new tag.  It was made by the son of one of my co-workers.  She wears it proudly.

ST Park

One of the benefits of the pandemic is a quick Friday afternoon hike at ST Park.  We went because I wanted to see if the California poppies are blooming.  And the answer was yes!

It seems like we are entering spring with 70 degree weather and wildflowers starting to bloom.

Cabin Sweet Cabin

Spending quiet time during the pandemic at the cabin has been good for the tired, overwhelmed soul.

Ouch!

Drew burned his hand pretty bad on the exhaust of a dirt bike.  After about a week, he went to a wound care specialist who said the skin would take months to pop since it is so calloused.  So they cut the skin off and now he has to keep it covered for 2 weeks until he goes back.

Bird time

I added this feeder to my office window over the weekend.  It took about 24 hours for the birds to find it.  I have not been getting a lot of action but enough to make it interesting for me!

Grant Ranch Hike

We took a hike on Sunday with Drew and Kaylene and Oak and Hops.  G opted out as did Astrid who is in heat, and Ahi who has a sore leg and just got a bunch of vaccinations.
We did the Dutch Flat, Brush, Dairy Trail, which was advertised as 5.7 miles but in reality was 8.3!  Good thing we are in decent shape and had snacks and water.  As it was, the dogs drank all our water.
It was a stunning day - we walked up on the ridge that looked over into the Santa Clara Valley and we could even see the end of the bay.
As per usual, I look for new plants, animals or insects so that I can journal each of my hikes for 2021 with a goal of 52 hikes.  I am off to a good start with 16 hikes for January and February.  My favorite new plant of today's hike was the Pacific Hounds Tongue!  It is particularly fun to see how different plants pop up at different times of the year.

Stuffie Repair

Hops has always loved her stuffies.  She usually has one big one that she carries around for months and months until it gets so gross or so destroyed that we have to throw it away.  This is her Lambchop that she got from Grandma Kathy for xmas.  It got a hole in it and has been put up while it waits for repair.  This morning, I took it down and started the repair while Hops looked on!  She immediately know what I was doing and waited patiently.

I gave it to her when it was done and she immediately took it to her bed and put her head on it!
