A few pics from our first day at the cabin

On the way to the river

We got to the cabin for a 2 week trip early yesterday morning.  We took the first half of the day to get unpacked and organized and then decided to head down to the river to let the dogs swim because the pup was wound up!

As we headed out, there was thunder and sprinkles!  Which lead to some pretty muggy weather.

Baby!

The road to the river is about 5 miles downhill in a canyon, on a dirt road, on the edge of the world.  On the way down, we saw a mama and a tiny baby dear running down the road in front of us.  Mama got spooked so she ran UP a steep hill and left baby in the road way.  We came to a complete stop and waited for them to re-unite.  Mama finally came down the hill and got baby and then they went over the side of the road heading DOWN a steep hill!

Once we got to the river the dogs fetched sticks and rocks for over an hour in some pretty cold river water!  The pic above is Hops on the ride home.  They were both so tired that Daisy was growling at Hops in the car if she got too close.

On the way home from the river we stopped at the grocery store to get the lemonade that I bought earlier in the day but never got in my shopping bag  -- and we saw Aunt Ginny and Uncle Glen!  They were heading up to their cabin in Aspen with Ginny's daughter and her family.  We had a nice visit in the parking lot!

We ended the evening eating take out Cochina, watching the movie "The Duff" (super cute) and making a new chocolate chip cookie recipe that I am trying out for a chocolate chip cookie "throw down" at work -- secret ingredient -- crushed up potato chips!  I think its a winner!

And....This is what I woke up to this morning.  I looked out the window and the world looked orange. My first thought was flames!  But I went out and the sky was bright orange.  Between the time that I went in to get my camera and snap the pic, the sky turned more pink.

So far it has been a pretty good start to a couple weeks of adventure!
