Our first top was a short hike to a "blow hole" - not to be confused by the blow holing done by Hops and Oakie B! You can see where the water in coming in from the ocean (above) thru a cave. It was quite a ways inland.
It is hard to see in the pic above but there was a rope down to the floor of the blow hole that Drew and Jim climbed down to check out. I had to walk away because it was anxiety producing to watch.
The hike was right behind an old cemetery. Each little town along the coast has its own historic cemetery, often right on the ocean. An amazing spot to spend your eternal life.
Next we drove up to Mendocino and walked through town and along the bluffs down to the beach, where the dogs played in the water. It had to be about 75 degrees - there was even someone in a bathing suit.
Lunch was a bag full of snacks from Trader Joes on a picnic table overlooking the bay in Ft Bragg. We watching the boats coming and going and enjoyed the warm weather.
Next up we went down to the harbor and walked all around. We went into Princess Seafood and got some fresh crab for dinner, which Jim cleaned at the dock and got all ready to cook at home. Last stop was the North Coast Brewery for a beer and some waffle fries....funny story: At the harbor - when Kaylene and I were waiting in the truck for Jim and Drew to come back from wherever they have wandered off to, we heard a young man at a walk up restaurant window yelling down at his wife at a picnic table "honey do you want some fries?" She didn't hear him so he screamed it about 5 times in the middle of this crowded eatery. She was sitting at a picnic table totally distracted by 3 young kids. Kaylene and I wanted to yell back "YES - the answer to fries is ALWAYS YES. WHY are you even asking?!?"!! So when we got to North Coast Brewery - the answer was YES - we will have some waffle fries!
After a day of exploring, we went back to the house and sat on the deck watching the waves and the people on the beach while eating some Cochina salsa Jim brought back from the cabin. Perfect afternoon. Then we played some nibs until we cooked up our crab dinner. It was an OUTSTANDING day.
