Six days after Grace's accident, we went and got mani pedis together. We both are very aware of how lucky she was that the incident did not turn out worse than it is. She feels like she dodged a bullet and is lucky that recovery means only being careful for the next 6 months not to get another head injury and not something much, much more.
I try to express my gratitude in words but there is nothing that can express how blessed I feel, how happy I am, how relieved I am, etc.
As a family, we usually move on from negative experiences and never look back, but in this case, I don't want to forget how thankful and lucky I feel. I don't want to take for granted what we have.
This quote from Buddha sums up how I feel and what Grace and I talk about when we discuss the accident:
“Let us rise up and be thankful,
for if we didn’t learn a lot today,
at least we learned a little,
and if we didn’t learn a little,
at least we didn’t get sick,
and if we got sick, at least we didn’t die;
so, let us all be thankful.”
for if we didn’t learn a lot today,
at least we learned a little,
and if we didn’t learn a little,
at least we didn’t get sick,
and if we got sick, at least we didn’t die;
so, let us all be thankful.”
