This is a blog by a "real" mom for other "real" moms. I am no fakey who is wonderful at everything....I do a lot of different things and try to do them well...but when it comes right down to it, I am just an average mom trying to do the right thing to ensure my family is happy and healthy and that my kids grow up able to take care of themselves and get out of my hair.

Glass Class
Grace booked us a Glass Blowing class at the lodge where she works. It was a combo birthday, mothers day and fathers day gift from her and Drew.
We took Astrid for some experience around crowds and kids and she did great.
Jim choosing his colors.
Shaping the flower.
Rolling the hot glass in the colors.
Putting the glass back in the furnace.
Blowing the ornament.
Putting the hook on the ornament.
Stand by for the finished product which had to be left there for cooling. If you don't cool them slowly they will shatter.

Happy Graduation!
G graduated with an AA degree this week! Woot! It has been a twisty journey to this point and we are so proud of her for staying focused and fighting through the hard parts. We enjoyed an evening celebrating (at the cabin) while watching the graduation on Youtube, eating carprese piadinis and munching down a strawberry roll cake.
Birthday Recipes
My coworkers gave me a birthday card this year with favorite recipes! What a great idea. I had so much fun sitting down with a cup of tea and going thru them all. I am saving them all here so I can come back and try all of them!

Graduation Hike
The day after G was done with classes, she went on a 19 mile hike in Yosemite. She went up the Mist Trail, then onto Glacier Point, down the 4 mile trail and then back to her truck on the Valley Loop Trail.
She said the views were amazing and she met a couple backpackers that she hiked with for awhile. A true boondoggle!

She said the hardest part was the last two miles which were completely flat!
Not a bad spot to eat your pb&j for lunch! What a total bad ass!

Leavitt Lake
Jim and I went camping to Leavitt Lake for my birthday, fathers day and to beat the heat. We went on a Friday since I had it off for Juneteenth and stayed until Sunday. The lake is at about 9500 feet so it was in the mid-70's which felt great because it was over 100 at the cabin. But - we felt the elevation and felt a bit sluggish.
This location is dispersed camping so we picked a place that overlooked the beauty. This was our lunch spot the first day.
This is Leavitt Lake. We had a low snow year so there is not as much snow left as we have seen before. The altitude did not seem to slow down the dogs if there was something to do. But when we stopped, they were like slugs too!
There were a surprising amount of wildflowers for this early in the season. Lots of new ones that I had not seen before.

Fishing was good with bites with every cast.
We called Hops "Pigpen" because she was so disgusting from wallowing in the dirt.
Still loving our new tent. So sturdy and so easy to put up.
On the second day, we drove up even higher and stopped here for a picnic lunch.
The dogs stayed in the truck during our picnic - by this time their feet really hurt.
The creek coming out of the lake
Semi alert vs not alert!
Waiting for us to get up but staying on their side of the tent.
Brook trout
We took a selfie and then turned around and took another one for the opposite direction. It shows the cool terrain.
